Bohemian Heaven

I made it to Chicago yesterday, and I've been having so much fun catching up with my sister. She's taken me past some cool murals both today and yesterday.

To my surprise, there's a lot of vegan food places here. So, the trip has turned into an impromptu tour of vegan eateries. Last night we had dinner at The Chicago Diner in Logan Square. Today, we had lunch at Native Foods in Wicker Park.

The California Wrap with Potato Salad

I had the most fun checking out what I'll call "Thrift Store Lane". There were some really cool vintage and thrift stores that we spent some time walking past and window shopping. We end up going to Ragstop and racking up! I had a little meltdown because there were so many cute things for so cheap. I love thrifting and almost succumbed to buying the store. Alas, I survived though without becoming a baby hoarder. My sister was so helpful in talking me off the ledge of buying waaaay too much costume jewelry, which is my addiction.

Once we made it out of Ragstop without putting them out of business, we went to my other favorite place on earth, used book stores. So, again, none of the typical touristy the stuff...but stuff that Adrienne loves. Our gem of a find in Unchartered Books was a used copy of The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. It has all the liner notes from some poetic human soul from years ago, given the lightly colored pencil. Super cool. Tomorrow, we're going to check out Bronzeville, continuing on in the vein of the my Black Renaissance tour.
